The Annual Cherry Festival and the Film Festival are major draws to Front Street. One of the best things about Front Street is the locals are very friendly and helpful and are glad to stop and chat. There are many shops, a theater and opera house, restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, several banks with ATM,s and free wireless internet.
A short walk away. is the Boardman river which runs parallel to Front street and its clear running waters are home to boaters, including many kayakers, fly fishing enthusiasts and sightseers There are several bridges that connect Front Street area to a farmers' market held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings in the summertime.
The Village at Grand Traverse Commons
The largest, historic preservation and adaptive reuse redevelopments in the country are underway. The Village is the unique renovation of dozens of historic buildings formerly known as the Traverse City State Hospital, and previously, the Northern Michigan Asylum. The auspicious location of this 63-acre site, centered in one of the Midwest\'s most desirable locations.
Our pedestrian-friendly walkways and expansive lawns, surrounded by a historic arboretum, perfect for a relaxing stroll or picnic…Gorgeous hiking and biking trails along Kid\'s Creek and through 480 acres of preserved parkland.
We went to Traverse City for a girls weekend over Labor Day and took a Sat evening sunset cruise. It was a major highlight! The crew was awesome especially Captain Brett who engaged with all the passengers joking, telling stories and taking their pictures. They obviously have a lot of pride in their tall ship and it shows - I would highly recommend the 2 hour sunset cruise!! Don't get excited about the box of food served - there is a bar of sorts for local beers - what else do you need?!
